Mobile Phone Insurance & Water Damage

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Mobile phone insurance is one of those things that you suddenly consider exactly when you should have already got it…

Like when you have just dropped your phone in the washing up bowl…

Like when you dropped it down the toilet…

Like when you dropped in in a puddle

Or even when it got rained on!

An old friend of ours had her phone fried (dead) when she was cycling with her phone in her bag and it started to rain heavily.  We could not salvage the phone and it had to be thrown.

Only mobile phone insurance would have helped her get a new replacement phone without her having to pay the full price (usually a few hundred pounds) to get a new mobile phone.

Over 1.5 Million Phones Lost Yearly

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

It’s not until you become the unfortunate victim of a mobile phone loss, theft or breakage that you begin to realise one of two things. Either just how important it was that you insured your phone, or you realise just how stupid you are that you didn’t insure your phone.
At the time you buy your phone, the retailer will almost certainly try to sell you an insurance. There are two problems with this. First of all, you will be so interested in the features of your new phone and getting it home to have it up and running that purchasing insurance is an inconvenience.

The second and main problem is that getting your phone insured at the place you buy your phone is probably going to be quite a bit more expensive (and cover you for quite a bit less) than a specialist online insurance.
Over one and a half million phones are lost or stolen every year. In particular, the iPhone is such a great target for theives. The fact that its a superb phone packed with the latest technology makes it very desirable.

But it’s equally desirable to criminals, so if you own such a phone, getting it insured against these risks should be a priority.
Make sure the policy covers you for loss, theft and damage as a minimum.
In addition, better policies should cover you against water damage, the cost of any fraudulent calls made from your phone after being stolen, as well as cover for all of the above when travelling abroad.

Phone insurance fraud

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Phone insurance fraud is what some people commit when they make bogus claims against their phone insurance.

This is completely illegal and something that the Police are actively against.

It often happens like this…

The person loses their phone or drops in it water…

They then go to their phone insurance policy Terms and realise that they are not covered for loss or theft…

They realise they are covered for theft (pretty much every phone insurance policy covers theft).

So they say their phone was stolen.

This is totally illegal and could well land them with a massive fine if not a jail sentence.

This is why you wnat to make sure your phone insurance does have loss and water damage and anything else that you think is important to you as part of your phone insurance

Worth Risking Your Life ?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

How far do you go to save your mobile phone? It’s crazy the things that happen simply for the sake of saving or retrieving your phone.

I know of an incident that happened near where I used to live and it was also widely reported in the local papers. A teenager was a passenger in the back of his friend’s car, and was holding his phone out of the window as they drove, trying to get a signal. Obviously, he dropped the phone, but as he did, he instinctively lunged against the door to try and catch it and the door popped open. He never made it.

I read a couple of other stories recently. One concerned 2 pals who were fishing on a lake when one dropped his phone. He jumped in to retrieve it (whatever possesses anyone to believe that their phone will ever work again?). Finding it difficult to see or swim in the slime filled lake, his friend jumped in to help him. Another fisherman came to rescue them both, but only one survived.

Some might find this equally tragic story just a tiny bit amusing. A man dropped his phone down a drain. Unfortunately it was to a sewer, but he still tried to retrieve his phone. Removing the drain cover, he edged inside with his arms above his head…and got firmly stuck. Passers-bye called the fire brigade who managed to get him out (he was a very big man) but he had already drowned.

It’s fair to say, that if all these people (and the 800,000 people in the UK who drop their phones into the toilet each year) had their mobile phones insured and the data on the sim card backed up on their pc’s (it’s easy) then they would not be so willing to put their lives at risk.

Knowing your have mobile insurance, and it’s insured for theft, water damage, loss or any other accidental damage gives peace of mind. It will certainly make you think twice before risking your life.

You can find the best inexpensive mobile phone insurance here

Mobile Phone Insurance and Water Damage

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Everyone drinks every day - whether it is alcoholic or purely refreshment.

Everyone needs to use the toilet every day.

Most people – at least in the UK – use a washing machine  to wash their clothes.

And these 3 liquid environments account for the biggest part of ALL mobile phone water damage.

In fact, over 1.2 MILLION phones are killed by water damage every year.

So every day, every phone user is at risk from water damage.

One of our management team only this last week killed his phone by inadvertently dropping it in his kid’s bath without realising.

And it was dead, dead, dead within minutes.

And yes, he did claim through his mobile phone insurance - and had a new mobile phone within 48 hours.

The reality is, water or some form of liquid is all around us every day, everywhere we go.  Tea, coffee, water, beer, wine, the sea, the bath, the pool, a puddle…

The list is almost endless.

And ALL could kill your mobile phone.

This is why water damage is actually a far bigger killer of phones than most people realise.  With most (other) mobile phone insurance policies, water damage is not covered, so when those customers who are not covered for water damage drop their phone down the loo, some of them will claim their phone was “stolen” in order to use their insurance to get a new phone.

This is insurance fraud, completely illegal but it does happen.  It is a known crime particularly with the Metropolitan Police.  And this is why the phone theft crime figures are higher than they really should be – and why phone water damage figures are lower than they should be.

So the only sensible thing to do is make sure you have water damage cover within your mobile phone insurance
