The dangers of using your mobile phone in public
The danger is real and scary so using your phone in public should only be done in emergencies and not a random act in your daily activities. In many Police reports, cases of mobile phone theft where their phone was grabbed from their hands in broad daylight are staggering. Some are more subtle like someone robbing your phone from your bag or coat unawares.
Then there is the chance of you losing your phone in public which is actually higher than using it in our office or home. If you did lose your phone inside your home, it is usually just misplaced and could be easily found. But losing it in public, then you can almost forget about it!
That is why it is very vital to get the right mobile phone insurance after your purchase your mobile phone. If you just bought your phone in the UK and you procrastinate for more than 6 months then you may never be able to insure your phone anymore. For as little as £2.49 a month, you can have peace of mind that your phone is covered with in depth mobile phone insurance in case of accidental damages, loss or even theft and fraudulent calls.
Mobile Insurance and International Cover
When you go abroad to another country, you will probably want to take your mobile phone with you.
Whether you are going away on work - or as a holiday - whether on your own or with your partner or with your family, you will probably want to take your phone with you.
Maybe just for emergencies.
Maybe you would actually like to get away from your phone, to cut off for a while - that makes sense.
But most people like to check in with their wife, friends, kids, parents, whoever once in a while during their trip away.
So you need mobile phone insurance that will give you international cover - to protect you while you are out of the UK for a while. Our insurance of course does this.
We protect your mobile phone while you are away. But let's be honest - you don't want to be without your phone and need to claim on your mobile phone insurance in the first place.
So how do you look after your phone while you are away?
Here are some obvious and not-so-obvious tips.
1. This applies to when you are at home, in the UK or abroad or wherever. If you possibly can, ALWAYS keep your mobile phone in the same pocket everywhere you go. This will train you, deeply ingrain into your mind, into your subconscious mind, that there should always be a bit of bulge of the mobile phone in that pocket. We recommend front right trouser pocket, if that works for you. Then as soon as there is no phone in that pocket you brain will 'niggle' you and tell you that something is not quite right. You will realise you have left your phone somewhere FAR quicker and can go back for it or pick it up straight away before you leave. Do not underestimate the power of this one technique.
2. If you want to switch off and be without your phone don't just leave it in your room. Leave your mobile phone locked in your hotel safe, either in your room or locked with reception.
3. If you are going to the beach and into the sea, if you are on your own, then you do not want to take your phone with you - because you would have to leave it on the beach while you go into the sea. So leave it locked in the hotel safe.
4. Especially if you are going to more 'interesting' (read 'dubious') areas or if you are going to tourist areas, where pickpockets are likely to be active, keep your phone in your pocket with something else on top of it like a handkerchief which makes it harder to pickpocket.
5. Similarly if you are going to such areas do not make or receive a call unless you really must. And if you do, get out of the main areas - maybe duck into a shop or similar so you are off the streets so it would be harder for a thief to grab it and run.
Follow these 5 simple rules and you are far less likely to need to be making an international claim on your mobile phone insurance.
BUT - things happen - even with the best preparation and prevention. So make sure you have full mobile phone insurance
